Dan Proctor and Dave Axland opened Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg, Nebraska in 1998, a 6,955-yard public course built in the softer, more accessible sand hills 2 hours east of Sand Hills proper. Proctor and Axland are quasi-legendary in golf course construction, having worked on Coore & Crenshaw projects including Sand Hills itself and Cabot Cliffs, this is their own credited design. Wild Horse has made Golf Digest's America's 100 Greatest Public Courses list multiple times. It has been recognized by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and Golfweek in their national rankings. And remarkably, green fees run under $50 on weekdays and just over $50 on weekends, making Wild Horse arguably the best value on any Top 100 Public list in America.
Wild Horse Golf Club's peak-season green fee is around $99 per round. Off-peak rates vary by season. Call the pro shop for current shoulder pricing. Cart, range balls, and caddie fees are typically separate. Estimate the full Nebraska Sand Hills trip cost
