Walter Travis designed the original Plantation Course at Sea Island in 1928 — a Golden Age routing that had drifted from its design intent over decades of maintenance. Davis and Mark Love of Love Golf Design (with Scot Sherman, a longtime Pete Dye collaborator) completely redesigned it in 2019, drawing on the original Travis profile alongside Seth Raynor and C.B. MacDonald template-design vocabulary. The Love team recovered photos of original 'chocolate drop' mounds from the Travis design and worked them back into the routing. They also restored the wooden bulkheads that had originally shored up lagoons and bunkers — design choices not previously seen on Sea Island's other layouts. The Plantation Course reopened in late 2019, ahead of the RSM Classic, as the Sea Island portfolio's clearest Golden-Age statement. Resort-only access; luxury-tier resort pricing matches the marquee Seaside Course next door.
