William F. Bell designed the North Course at Torrey Pines in 1957 alongside the South — sister courses that have operated as the municipally-owned complex for the City of San Diego ever since. Tom Weiskopf led a 2016 renovation that enlarged and repositioned green complexes, reduced bunker count by nearly a third, widened fairways, and added 6,000-square-foot bentgrass greens. Weiskopf also reversed the nines so the finish plays along the coastal cliffs — the par-3 15th and uphill par-4 16th are now the closing drama. After the Weiskopf renovation, the North Course made its Golf Digest Top 100 Public Golf Courses in America debut at #9. Both North and South now sit on the magazine's Top 100 Public ranking — one of only a handful of sister-course pairs in the country to hold that distinction. Approximately 80,000 rounds per year make Torrey Pines North one of the most-played world-class courses in America.
