Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish opened the Monument Course at Troon North in 1990, part of the design duo's formative run through Scottsdale desert golf. The course draws its name from a prominent rock formation the construction crew tried and failed to remove — the hole was routed around it instead, which became the identifying signature of the layout. The course spans roughly 7,000 yards through Sonoran desert terrain: fairways carved around arroyos, dry washes, cacti, and mesquite, with generally large elevated greens. Golf Digest places it 21st in the state for 2025-26 and consistently ranks it in Arizona's Top 10. Golfweek named it #10 on Best Courses You Can Play in Arizona (2023) and #130 on Best Resort Courses in the US (2023). Golf Magazine ranked it #58 on Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the US. Troon North as a facility has been recognized as #1 in Arizona by multiple publications (Arizona Republic, Golfweek) and ranks in the US top 10 for public-access play by Golf Digest.
